The Wetlands and Wildlife Care Center experiences pretty extreme variation in patient volume throughout the year. Our busy season (which runs from approximately March through September) typically peaks around 1,000 -1,200 animals in care at one time!
On the other hand, WWCC's slower season (which is from about October through February) sees much fewer animals come into care — sometimes as few as 40 patients might be in WWCC's care at one time.
Because of this, WWCC will typically close off applications and not onboard new volunteers throughout our slower season. If you've heard at all about the El Niño event that is set to take the world by storm this year, though, you know that WWCC's planned slower season may not be slow after all.
